Teardown
While a research resident at ITP/NYU in Spring 2019, I collaborated with Regina Cantu de Alba & Luming Hao to run workshops on electronics disassembly, repair, and reuse sponsored by a grant from the NYU Office of Sustainability. Workshop guests included Aaron Parsekian, Dominic Barrett, Cyd Cipolla, and Ed Bear. Kathleen McDermott also very generously ran a workshop that helped us develop this idea in Fall 2018.
This project included the maintenance and improvement of the ITP "Free Store," an area in the ITP shop where people discarded and repurposed materials.
Our workshops are documented and archived along with a series of virtual and printable zines. Luming also documented explorations and innovations stewarding the Free Store (and sharing the zines!).
